Doggy Rock recap

well there was no tropical storm and the night was nice for rock on Saturday in downtown Durham. the PA was not as nice to us and Laura sacrificed her own monitoring by turning hers around to face the audience so they could hear a bit of vocals. no matter, it was still fun sweating to the rock and the Coalition to Unchain Dogs raised a bunch of money in the process.

setlist:

Cursed Mirror
Seed Toss
Question Is How Fast
Punch Me Harder
Crossed Wires
Like a Fool
Nu Bruises
Iron On
Learned to Surf
From the Curve
Driveway to Driveway
Precision Auto
Hyper Enough

on the healthcare front, hopefully the nation is getting wingnut fatigue and when congress comes back will focus on getting them to do the right thing....i like Robert Reich and i hope he's right about the public option not being dead...

have great weekends!

Jay Reatard - Watch Me Fall
Lambchop - (oh) ohio
Arthur Russell - First Thought, Best Thought
David S. Ware - Shakti
Keletigui et ses Tambourinis - The Syliphone Years

Ted Kennedy 1932-2009

In 1968 did anyone think that, the iconography of his brother John aside, Senator Ted Kennedy would have the greatest real life impact on the lives of Americans? My grandfather, a full-on southern Republican, had a "Nuclear Energy is Safer Than Ted Kennedy's Car" bumper sticker on the back of his giant sedan when i was little, but it was explained to me that that was more about my grandfather than Ted Kennedy. So many bouts of tragedy, some of his own making, but after all that it seems that his legacy will be his life in the senate. He fought the good fight, especially but not exclusively on health care, and hopefully his energy will not have been wasted on the health care struggle that's happening right now between rational / idealistic people like Sen. Kennedy and those owned by industry.

Unchained!

one of my favorite Van Halen songs. Also, it's how dogs should be kept...but to do that you gotta build fences.

Superchunk is playing a benefit concert this Saturday, August 29th, in Durham's Central Park, for the Coalition to Unchain Dogs.

The event is called Music for Fences and we'll be joined by Regina Hexaphone, The Kinksmen, and Ray NorteƱo, should be a great late-summer evening in Durham.
